Obituary for Alfred Gus Kowalewski

Alfred �Gus� Kowalewski of Casco, Michigan, died August 27, 2011, at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. He was 72 years old. Gus was born April 12, 1939, in Hamtramk, to Helen (Maslusczcak) and Victor Kowaleski.

Gus proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a graduate of Wayne State University. He married Mary Ann Hokula on January 7, 1972 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church in Detroit.

Gus was an English teacher at Mumford High School and Foch Middle School, and a Science teacher at Kettering High School before retiring in 1994.

Gus enjoyed antique auctions, golfing, going to the casino, traveling, selling on ebay, writing and cooking. He loved animals, was an expert pool player, and was a sweetheart of a husband who will be deeply missed by many.

Gus is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann, brother, Richard (Geraldine) Kowalewski and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Pam (Remi) DeClercq and Karen (Art) Bucholtz, and brothers-in-law, Jerome (Kathy) Hokula, and Gregory (Jayne) Hoski. Gus is preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Pietras and sister-in-law, Sr. Shirlee Hoski, SSJ-tosf.

A Memorial Service will be held at Michigan Meadows Golf Course, 4575 County Line Road, Casco, Michigan, Friday September 16th at 4pm.
